Today we see the hoodie as a garment for anyone, from athletes to high fashion, but the hoodie has come along way to bring us that comfort and flexibility.
Hoodies started to gain popularity in the early 1900’s, when they were adopted by athletes who wanted a functional and comfortable garment to wear during training and as sportswear manufacturers started to improve the design with the additions of ribbed cuffs and hems, the modern hoodie we know began to take shape.
As their popularity increased outside of sports, the hoodie started to make its impact on streetwear in the 1970’s, and urban culture and youth rebellion in 80’s and 90's, leading to a negative view that anyone who wore a hoodie was causing trouble. But in the early 2000's, that stigma started to change when fashion designers started featuring hoodies on their runways, often incorporating expensive materials into their designs.
