Creating an Impactful Tradeshow Booth
While many of you are taking a break from the recent ag shows, a lot of you are starting to plan your fall tradeshow activities. Is it time for a new look? Are your current display materials out of date or looking worn? Perhaps you have had a change in your logo or have a new product to introduce. We can help you with all of your tradeshow needs and as such wanted to share some tips for you this month…
Set Clear Goals
Before designing or planning:
- Define your objectives. Are you aiming to generate leads, launch a product, gain media attention or strengthen brand awareness?
- Establish what success would look like. Examples include number of leads, product demos, social shares or appointments set.
Strategic Booth Design
Your booth should be visually inviting and purpose-built:
- Open layout. Avoid clutter and use open spaces to invite people in.
- Brand visibility. Prominent logo placement, consistent brand colors and clear messaging.
- Lighting. Use creative lighting to highlight focal points and create ambience.
- Vertical space. Use height (banners, hanging signage) to attract attention across the floor.
Visual & Interactive Elements
Technological advancements have added some exciting possibilities for display booths.
- Large-format graphics. Use high-res images and concise text to tell your story at a glance.
- Video loops or animated displays. Draw attention with motion.
- Touchscreen or kiosks. Let attendees interact with your product or service directly.
- Live demos, Schedule presentations or product interactions that show real-world benefits.
Staff Like a Pro
Choose engaging people. Staff should be energetic, well-informed, and personable.
- Uniforms or branded clothing. Ensure they’re easy to identify and on-brand.
- Training. Prep your team on elevator pitches, FAQs, and objection handling.
Memorable Giveaways
One of our favorite subjects, of course!
- Useful and on-brand. Give items attendees will actually use, like tech gadgets, water bottles, or tote bags with your logo.
- Interactive giveaways. Incorporate a spin-the-wheel, quiz, or gamification element to earn prizes.
Pre- and Post-Show Promotion
So many shows now have attendee apps that are shared with each registrant. Be sure to utilize all the features to create some buzz and excitement that motivates them to tag your booth number as a “must-see!”
- Announce in advance. Use email and social media to let people know where you’ll be.
- Booth teaser. Offer an exclusive giveaway or sneak peek to drive traffic.
- Follow-up strategy. Plan immediate follow-up emails or calls after the show with hot leads.
Data Collection and Lead Capture
Again, take advantage of tradeshow technology apps!
- Digital lead forms or badge scanners. Minimize paper and ensure quick follow-up.
- Lead qualification. Ask relevant questions to prioritize follow-ups.
Make it Shareable
Post live content on social channels and see if booth visitors are willing to go live with you while they try a new product or service.
- Photo op area. A branded backdrop or fun prop setup encourages social sharing.
- Hashtag and QR codes. Along with the tradeshow’s hashtag be sure to promote a unique hashtag and quick access to your website or offer.
Think Experience, Not Just Display
I know that when our team attends our industry show in Vegas each year, we all have a favorite booth that we are sure not to miss the following year. Most often it is because of the way we are treated by the vendor.
- Host a contest or drawing
- Offer refreshments or seating
- Incorporate storytelling into your product pitch
Evaluate and Improve
Most of the work actually comes after the show.
- Follow up on all leads collected!
- Debrief your team: What worked and what didn’t?
- Review performance vs. goals.
- Adjust for next time.
