4-Way Stretch Fabric

Every fabric has a different amount of stretch, but what makes a fabric 4-way stretch? A fabric's stretch depends on the elasticity of the fibers it's made of. 4-way stretch fabric can stretch in any direction and regain its shape.

Polyester and nylon are commonly used due to their lightweight, breathable properties and spandex and Lyrca are used due to their high elasticity and ability to stay elastic over time.

Depending on the materials, 4-way stretch fabric is able to stretch up to 400% of its original size. This is because during the weaving process the fibers are stretched as the fabric is woven, then relaxed back to their original shape. The fibers are also woven in a crisscross pattern to give it an even stretch in all directions.
