There are so many jackets to choose from. So how do you choose which to order?
Beyond finding a style you like, you should consider what it is you are going to be doing in the jacket. Is it your final outer layer? If so, then something with a hood might be warranted. If not your final layer, then the weight and warmth of the jacket needs to be considered. Are you better with a fleece layer instead?
The next, and perhaps most important, factor is moisture. What are the wicking attributes for the jacket? Also, where are you going to be wearing it? If you are in a moist climate then look for something that is waterproof. If not, then perhaps water resistant will be enough.
Finally, in the case of winter wear, what insulation do you need? Most brands have a temperature rating scale on their winter jackets. Just remember, heavier does not always mean warmer. Lightweight down jackets are very popular right now and they are warmer than synthetic and they do pack well, but are not great at keeping you dry in wet climates.
